JVC Everio Utility v1.5

1) What is this?
--------------------------------------------------

This is a program that can do the following:

- Copy files to a location on your computer that you choose, preserving the
  file creation times.

- Perform several copy options that make life with the Everio easier. This includes
renaming the MOD file to MPG to make them compatible with most programs as well as
  several other copy options.

- Fix the 16:9 aspect ratio problem. If you set your Everio to record in 16:9,
it will record properly, but it writes the files out incorrectly. Most video
players will think it is 4:3 and play it 'squished'. This utility fixes that
problem so that you can play them back at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio and
author a DVD properly using programs other than the one provided in the Everio
box. NOTE: some versions of Windows Media Player will still ignore the fix :-P

--------------------------------------------------
2) How do I use this?
--------------------------------------------------

As of version 1.3 and above, you can run this program 2 different ways:

- From your computer
Run the EverioUtility and it will find your Everio if it is connected to
   your computer and turned on.

or

- From your Everio
Attach your Everio camcorder to your computer and open it up (you should see the
folders named "EXTMOV", "PRIVATE", and "SD_VIDEO"). Copy the EverioUtility.exe file
into the folder. When it is there, double-click on it.

If you want some right-click options when you view the drive list and want to see an
everio icon, copy the autorun.inf file as well.

Using the utility is simple:
1) By default, it will copy the files to your desktop. If you want to copy them elsewhere,
click "Browse", choose a folder (or create a "New Folder") and click OK.

2) Look through the file list to make sure it looks OK. Yes, that is a bit obscure, but
this is just a sanity check.

3) Choose your copy and processing options

4) Click on "Copy"

5) When done, make sure that the copied files play properly, and THEN disconnect your Everio
and delete the video files on your Everio.

3) Where can I download updates?

3) Who are you? Why should I trust you?
--------------------------------------------------

It makes me happy that you are asking this :-). I've been writing software for a long time.
I love my Everio and have found it indespensible despite its 'quirks'.

I wrote this utility to make life easier on myself and decided to share it. Use it if you want.

--------------------------------------------------
4) SOMETHING WENT HORRIBLY WRONG!
--------------------------------------------------
I am not responsible for any loss of data, time, or anything else resulting from the use
of this software. You use this at your own risk. If your guinea pig suddenly grows a 5th
leg, then I am DEFINITELY not responsible.
